A fire broke out on the 10th floor of South Mall Towers on South Pearl Street in downtown Albany. The building houses low-income seniors. Fire officials said they responded to an automatic alarm and were able to help several trapped residents exit their apartments. No serious injuries were reported, and at least one woman was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
