SOCIAL MEDIA POLICY

ALBANY PROPER is an independent grassroots publisher dedicated to reporting on community and culture around New York’s Capital Region. In that spirit, our articles may solicit a wide range of reactions from the community we belong to. We are committed to bringing truth to power and a voice to the voiceless — this does not mean that we will not moderate internet commentary.

If we had it our way, all social media comments would be disabled, as they are on our own website. If you disagree with this, you may be more comfortable in the comments section of other local news outlets.

Readers are encouraged to speak about our articles with their communities and on their own social media profiles. Your freedom of speech is protected there.

We reserve the right to make comments free from public view when we see fit. Anonymous users, trolls, and bullies can and will be blocked.

Comments that may be hidden and result in a user’s ban can include, but are not limited to:

  • Hate speech and harmful language
  • Unproven claims and conspiracy theories
  • Irrelevant or unproductive statements
  • Encouragement of illegal activity
  • Promotions or advertisements not endorsed by Albany Proper

Thank you for following this policy and helping us create a community to discuss important public issues comfortably.
